Harmony Gold Mining Company of Free State of South Africa uses solvent extraction technology to chemically extract gold from chloride medium. The process is shown in figure 5.6-2.
The process is well suited for small-scale extraction, which can be used by small factories and mines to extract silver.
The gold refining technology of Bolidenen, a Swedish company, is different from that of South Africa. It eliminates the solvent extraction process, and the key technology lies in the step reduction precipitation. Most of the first step precipitation, then melting ingot, and we can get the purity of more than 99.99% of the refined gold. The rest of the gold is further precipitated in subsequent steps.
At present, there are some plants and mines in our country that use wet chlorination to extract gold, but the purity of the obtained products is not high, generally less than 99.9%. The research and development of producing more than 99.99% high purity gold by wet chlorination refining technology is being carried out in our country and will be put into production and application in the near future.
