Insufficient exploration and mine planning are contribute to the issue as well. Mines are opened without proper exploration.
Malaysia have a long way to go in mining. Malaysia have no direction or focus as far as mining is concerned. Working in Malaysia mining industry one get the impression of individual land grabbing, everyone find a piece of land with fairly good reserves or resources, get a ML/MC, but their is no money and focus to establish a sustainable mine. The land owners just focus on short term quick financial gains. The mining contractor don't bother about development or exploration, he just want to make a quick dollar. There is very limited mines in Malaysia which can be called mines, most is just hap hazard digging. If Malaysia engage in exploration and sustainable mine development, the industry can grow. If the authorities don't take action soon, the sun will surely set for the industry. They should also stop issuing a ML to individuals with small pieces of land, and with no experience or money to establish a mine. Last but not least the mines department should start enforcing regulations and establish sustainable mining standards.
