The gold loaded carbon obtained from the adsorption process is the intermediate product of the heap leaching process for gold extraction. The gold content is generally 5~15 g / kg and a considerable amount of silver must be further treated for recovery of gold and silver. At present, there are two ways to treat the gold-loaded carbon: (1) desorption and electrolysis;(2)We can Incinerate the gold-loaded carbon, and then remove the gold-containing carbon from the smelting process to recover the gold;(3) the gold-bearing carbon is sold to the pyrometallurgical . Because activated carbon can not be recovered and reused, and the direct recovery rate of gold is low, the latter two methods are gradually eliminated. At present, the method of desorption and electrolysis of gold loaded carbon is the most commonly used. The equipment and operation of this method are emphatically introduced below.
The main equipment for desorption of gold from gold loaded carbon is:
1.Desorption column: the size and number of desorption columns are determined by the amount of gold-loaded carbon. The cylinder with conical bottom or semi-circular bottom is made of stainless steel or carbon steel. The diameter of large desorption column varies from 1 to 3 meters and the height of column varies from 3 to 10 meters. The ratio of height to diameter varies from 1.5 to 10. Its carbon volume is about 70%~80% of the effective volume of desorption column. Almost all desorption columns add activated carbon from the upper part of the column and release it from the lower part. For desorption column with pretreated acid, its inner wall must be anticorrosive, generally can be lined with fluorinated plastics in order to resist higher temperature. The desorption column widely used in China is designed by Beijing Nonferrous Metallurgical Design Research Institute. By the Honghuagou Gold Mine and Shandong Rushan County Gold Machinery Factory and other manufacturers produced by pressure desorption column. Its specifications are 900 × 4200 (high) and 700 × 3800 mm, with design pressures of 5 × 105Pa and 2.5 × 105Pa, respectively. The design temperature is 135 ℃ and 100 ℃ respectively.
2. Heat Exchanger: It mainly used for the cooling of pregnant solution and the heating of solution and general 2 or 3 units are selected . The heat exchange area is determined by the amount and temperature of the solution needed to be heated and cooled. The heat exchanger used for desorption heating is in series with the heater for heating.
3.Desorption pump: It is used to transport desorption solution, because the solution used is corrosive, it must be corrosion resistant and high temperature resistant pump. The size of the pump is determined by the amount of the input desorption solution.
Recently, a new type of desorption electrolysis combined device has been adopted abroad. Its characteristic is that the electrolysis electrode plate is installed in the pressurized desorption column, so that desorption electrolysis is carried out in the same equipment.
4. Small-scale desorption device: small-scale desorption device is mainly used in small and medium-sized heap leaching plants, generally under atmospheric pressure. It is different from large desorption equipment in that it is smaller in diameter, generally 0.3m in diameter and 1.2~1.5 m in height. And most of the direct electric heating way, mostly stainless steel or carbon steel. At present, JC-A and JC-B desorption columns produced by Jilin Prospecting Machinery Factory are mostly used in China. Its specifications are 300 × 1200 (high) and 400 × 1200 (high) mm respectively. Each group is usually used in series with 4 columns. The single column carbon content is 25 kg and 40 kg respectively. The heating temperature can reach 95 ℃ or 98 ℃.
